Narrative Theatre Therapy

This project addresses the challenge of violence, mental illness, and substance misuse among refugee youth by providing a safe, positive space to express trauma and feel valued and contribute positively to the community. Narrative theatre has been demonstrated to solve problems and conflicts, facilitate acceptance of difference, create bonding and a sense of belonging for traumatized individuals.

This project is designed and delivered by those who face the same challenges as the beneficiaries and are trusted by the displaced community due to delivering education and activities in camps since 2014. The process of creating theatre during workshops results in decreased crime due to providing diversionary activities to youth as well as minimising conflict by bringing youth together in a beneficial way.

Theatre performances for camp residents and host communities increase self esteem of participants and build more positive relationships between camp residents and host communities.
